The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

As any prominent awards ceremony draws close, you'll find a demand for introducing of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and satisfy the passions of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. The same goes for tabletop games, representing someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize because like all dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial and important of all. Here's the proposal: We need an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that film award organizations avoid this approach. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they barely qualify a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies presently include genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these award types actually cover many game types, and you can find room for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers published annually lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • Another creative title was excluded during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked in 2021
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent compact experiences, however the design in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among the most-played games globally maintaining this status for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience competes with well-known building titles for the title of highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. You could fill five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators are working at the demanding boundary game development, developing some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait decades.
